As suggested by its name, the sanitary valve is a kind of valve designed to meet specific safety and health standards for medical, beverage, food, and other applications. How many kinds of sanitary valves exist?

Linear motion valves

These sanitary valves use a closing member and move straightly for throttling, stopping, or allowing the medium to flow. Examples of standard linear motion sanitary valves are lift check, pinch, diaphragm, globe and gate valves.

Rotary motion valves

These sanitary valves utilize a valve-closure member, which moves across a cylindrical or angled path.  Common rotary motion valves are eccentric, plug, swing check, and butterfly valves.

Quarter turn valves

These are rotary motion valves that only roughly need a quarter-turn (or zero through 90 degrees) stem motion for going from totally closed to open position or vice versa.

Of these three different types of valves, not every valve is considered sanitary. Remember, sanitary valves should meet special sterile needs, especially for sealing components and valve bodies. The valve seat's sealing surface must not be toxic. For instance, the material employed for soft sealing and hard sealing can be rubber and stainless steel, respectively.

If we shorten the list of sanitary valves, the most common kinds of sanitary valves are sanitary ball valves and sanitary butterfly valves. The other sanitary valves are sanitary solenoid valves, diaphragm valves, and sanitary check valves.
