Different Types of Check Valves

 

A check valve is defined as a tool that is equipped with a mechanism that lets a fluid flow through it in a merely singular direction. The use of check valves is common in different plumbing operations where they are used to let different liquids pass through a plumbing system. Typically, the check valves are equipped with two openings, one for the entry of the fluid and the other being for the exit. There are different kinds of check valves that can be used in different applications depending on the required specifications. Most of the check valves are automated and do not rely on any operator, which makes them a lot secure and more reliable than any other manually controlled valve for a plumbing system.

Here are a few types of check valves that are commonly used in various operations.

Swing Check Valve

It can be described as one of the most commonly used valves that we have today. It comes with a unique full-port configuration, which means that the disc is out of the flow stream when fully exposed in a situation. It can be a great choice in applications where the quantity of solids is more than the on and off-cycle counts. The traveling distance of the disc is the cause behind the slow closing of the check valves in many applications. It often causes the last push of reverse flow to shut the disc closed, allowing a huge spike in pressure that leads to the water hammering.

Axial Flow Check Valve

The axial flow check valve is a kind of valve that typically incorporates a center guided stem-disc assembly along with a compression spring which results in the disc staying in the stream. The media flows around the valve and does not need any kind of assistance, neither automated nor manual, in order to operate. When the pump is working, the valve is open. When the pump closes, the valve closes to some extent prior to the reversal of fluid flow due to the compression spring force applied on the disc, which nearly removes the water hammer. Double Door Check Valve

The valve is similar to the swing check valve but has a better closing mechanism due to the coiled springs that support the two cantilevered doors in the process of closing rapidly.
